Book Review: New York For Beginners

5 Things to Know About: New York For Beginners

1.  This book is about Zoe Shumacher, a German woman, who finds herself needing a change after a bad breakup.  She takes a magazine job in New York City and from there must navigate a new culture, a new man, and a new workplace!

2.  While I did enjoy this book, I honestly didn't like Zoe very much.  I think that if I were to meet her in real life she would annoy me to no end.  But I still found her story exciting

3.  McNeighbor made for a cute love interest!  Maybe I should have anticipated it, but when he and Zoe had their little tryst at the beginning of the novel, I had no idea that he was going to turn out to be on of the higher ups of her company.  Oh my!

4.  While Zoe wasn't my favorite, I did love her friends.  Eros (who works at the magazine) and his friend Mimi (who is an art gallery owner) adopt Zoe into their little group of friends and it's funny to read about the wacky things they do, jetting around New York City.  For instance, there's a part of the book where Zoe and Eros have to rent a car, just so that they can get their American drivers licenses.

5.  All in all, the content of this book was fun and interesting.  You could tell Zoe didn't feel fulfilled by her work at the magazine but when she, Ben, and Allegra break out to work on their new start up, Yearning (which from what I can tell is similar to A Beautiful Mess,  but I'm not totally sure), it's fun to read about all of the work and planning that goes into that project.

If you like reading stories about forbidden love or the hustle and bustle of New York City, then I recommend this book for you.

Thank you for the review copy, Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Take care,
