Thoughts on Cherry Ames

1.  Cherry Ames is a book series about a young woman named Cherry and the journey that she takes to becoming a nurse.  The first book in the series takes place when she is eighteen years old and just beginning nursing school at Spencer.

2.  I liked this book for a lot of reasons but the main reason is Cherry!  Obviously this book is a little dated, but I do appreciate the fact that she's so strong and independent for her time.  Some of the things I admire about her are the fact that she's so determined to become a nurse, the fact that she confronts people when they do wrong by her (like when she worked things out with Vivian), and that she stands up to Dr. Wylie when he's being harsh to her for no reason.

3.  I was a little disappointed because for most of the book, Cherry and this doctor named Jim Clayton have this seemingly flirtation going on.  It's real cute.  They have all these chats about life and Jim gives Cherry all of these motivational speeches about how she CAN do it and how he believes in her.  And then at the end of the book Cherry catches Jim and this other nurse in an "embrace" and they announce that they're in love and Cherry's totally ok with it.  WHAT.  Maybe I read too many romance novels but I was hoping that they would get together in a future book. Haha.  *Sigh*

4.  I enjoyed the fact that Cherry has a twin brother.  As someone who has a fraternal twin brother, it's always fun to read books about other twins.

5.  All in all, it was a delightful story to read about.  Unfortunately, my library doesn't have all the books so I won't be able to read them all in order.  But that's ok.  I think they're kind of like the Nancy Drew books where you can pretty easily catch up on the story that you missed.

Take care,

    1. Thanks for the comment, Emily! :) I so agree. Even if you just read the first one, it's really interesting to hear about what nurse's training was like in the past. haha
