Writing Tips: My NaNoWriMo To-Do List (2016 Edition)

October is half over (gasp!) which means that we are getting closer and closer to National Novel Writing Month.  I've been telling myself to work on my outline for the past two weeks but so far I only have the first chapter planned. Oops!

It's getting to be crunch time, people. I have the day off from work tomorrow and so I'm planning what things I still need to get done.

1.  Decide which novel I want to write

That's right.  I have an outline barely started for a novel that I'm not even sure I want to write right now! Hmmm.  It definitely needs to be decision making time.  I really like both of my ideas though so maybe I will just flip a coin to decide which one to work on.

2.  Get my word count spreadsheet ready

I wrote a post a while ago about how I track my monthly word count goals when I'm writing.  One of my favorite things about participating in NaNoWriMo is updating my progress on the website so that I can see the graphs and everything, but I like to keep my work documented in my google drive as well, which is where I keep my word count spreadsheets.

3.  Get my outline notebook organized

Once I finish writing my outline, I print everything out and place it in a binder.  That way when I'm on my computer I don't have to keep switching windows all the time.  It saves me some strain.

4.  Have everything set to back up

Flash drive? Check.  External hard drive?  Check.  I am ready to back everything up.  There's no way I'm losing my hard work due to a technical glitch.

How are you preparing/pre-writing for NaNoWriMo?

Take care,
