Writing Tips: How I Prepare for NaNoWriMo (2016 Edition)

As I mentioned the other day in my monthly goals post, it's October!  And now that it's October that means we're one month away from National Novel Writing Month.  Last year was my first year "winning" or actually completing a novel and so I want to make sure I'm prepared for this year so that I can "win" again.

(Win is in air quotes, because let's be real.  Any time you sit down to get some writing done, you're winning!  The many years that I've participate and not won, I've still felt great about it because I was attempting to do something that I love).

1.  Working on my Plot

I learned last year that the key to me actually finishing a novel during NaNoWriMo is by having the plot fully outlined.  I started working on my outline this month so that It will keep me motivated during the month and so that I won't lose direction in my story.

2.  Getting Caffeinated

One thing that always keeps me going throughout NaNoWriMo is caffeine.  Some people enjoy the atmosphere of coffee shops, but I like to write at the library or in the comfort of my own home.  One of my favorite coffees is the donut shop k cups but I'm debating purchasing this sampler pack this year.  So many coffees!  They would definitely keep me wide awake during my writing time next month.

3.  Being Active on the NaNoWriMo site

This isn't the final cover for my novel, but it's a working cover at least!  I like to stay active on the site by writing on the forums and updating my novel information.  I also like to keep my word count updated every day because it's fun looking at the graphs.

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo this year?  How do you plan to prepare?  Or don't you? haha!

Take care,
