Book Review: Once and For All by Sarah Dessen

Synopsis (from

Louna, daughter of famed wedding planner Natalie Barrett, has seen every sort of wedding: on the beach, at historic mansions, in fancy hotels and clubs. Perhaps that's why she's cynical about happily-ever-after endings, especially since her own first love ended tragically. When Louna meets charming, happy-go-lucky serial dater Ambrose, she holds him at arm's length. But Ambrose isn't about to be discouraged, now that he's met the one girl he really wants.

I have read quite a few Sarah Dessen books over the years and one thing you can also count on with her plots is a very well developed story.  You can tell she puts so much thought into the what happens, the detail, and creating characters that are both unique and relatable. I believe she releases a new book every two years or so and I always highly anticipate them.

With that being said, Once And For All is no exception.  Right off the bat, we're introduced to Louna at her cool summer job (working for her mother, a wedding planner).  We're introduced to Louna's life in present day as well as in flashbacks, so that we as readers can learn about her past.  I don't usually enjoy stories with constant flashbacks but in this book, it made sense to be switching so much between present and past.

In all Sarah Dessen novels, we're introduce dto fantastically (is that a word?) unique and interesting characters.  Once and For All is no exception.  From Louna and her best friend Jilly, to Louna's Mother, Natalie, and her business partner (and best friend) Williams.  We're introduced to all kinds of delightful friendships.  Don't even get me started on Ambrose, the hot but impossible troublemaker  who starts working for Natalie's business, despite Louna's many protests.  By the end of the books I found all of these characters to be very near and dear to my heart.

I would recommend this book to other readers for many reasons!

  1. If you're a Sarah Dessen fan
  2. If you like young adult beach reads.  This novel is the perfect mixture of young adult drama/romance
  3. If you like weddings!  This book has plenty of weddings, as it centers around a wedding planning business

If you've read this book, please let me know what you thought in the comments.  I was pleasantly surprised. :)

Take care,
